World War Z is a book written by Max Brooks. It is written in the style of a documentary on accounts of many eyewitness who experienced the Zombie Apocalypse or World War Z(ombie). It made it's way to the big screen in 2013, the lead role played by Brad Pitt. The idea of World War Z is that no one thought that it could happen, and everyone was completely unprepared when it did, thus almost leading to the extinction of humanity. In the book, even when it was over people still had encounters with the living dead. The plague was never eradicated.
The infection spreads via blood, saliva transfer, or by a bite. The saliva enters the bloodstream and causes a fever, the victims eventually slipping away very painfully. Symptoms of infection are blood shot eyes, intense fevers, coughing of blood, sporadic eye movements, hallucinations, and extreme twitches within the body. The victim dies. Shortly after the passing of the victim the corpse reanimates. The corpse experiences ravenous hungers that are never satisfied, extreme rotting of the flesh, as well as complete numbing of the nervous system. The only way to kill the reanimated corpse (or Zombie) is a shot to the head, severing it's central cortex from the body. There are many ways to do that, but a bullet is the safest.
In the movie, however, the change is a little more rapid and terminally ill people were ignored by the Dead. I will inform you that it never happened in the book. The concept is interesting however. But not accurate.
A major role in the book is DeStRes (Department of Strategic Resources). It's main goal is to get the world back in order. But it is often the cause of many problems such as the death of many innocent civilians. It's main goal was to get clothing, food, shelter, and safety to civilians but eventually began draining refugee camps so they would stop taking the governments resources. It began sending civilians to their deaths so that other higher government officials could be spared. There are a few other military groups and you have the option of starting one in your colony and seeing how far it can spread.
So that is a little bit of background on the book. If you've read it, great! If you want us to add something, send your addition to a staff member and it will be added promptly!
