All right then. Welcome to Creating a Character 101 where we will point you in the basic direction of creating a character. In this post we will tell you some of the Do's and a lot of the Don'ts of creating a character. Though we all think it's a bunch of willy nilly "Oh, hi. I'm Steve the super hero and I'm here to save the day and get the girl with my super plasma rifle 17000." It's not. There are a few guidelines to follow and they aren't all as over whelming as they may seem. Just read through at your own pace. It will certainly make the Staffs job of reviewing your character bio when we know that you know what you're doing.
Alright. So this is the deal. We're going to throw some Do's at you so that you know what to put into your bio. Or not put into your bio but know that you're allowed to put in there. You get the just of it.
-Be very descriptive If you met someone who "Wore clothes. Hair short and brown. Cool smile. Nice eyes. Tall." Do you want to talk to them? No! You probably don't. Well we don't want to read about them either! "He was tall and handsome, his jaw bone prominent and his nose practically perfect. His eyes glistened in the early sunlight, like always, and the hazel color was much, much more prominent at this time of day." That's better? Right? Right.
-Being Realistic So the world just ended, at least on this forum. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be realistic to some extent. If the world has just ended then what in God's name would make you think that your cell phone will work. Yet. Maybe as the site ages we will incorporate more and more technology. But as of right now, all the technology that is available are CB Radios (for forum wide communication) and battery powered radios, flashlights, and so on.
Now it's time for the Don'ts. There may not be as many as we initially promised, but we hope the point will get across to you guys and galls.
-Superpowers So this one pretty much explains its self. It's unrealistic. Granted, the world has ended via Zombie apocalypse but, come on. We all know that there are no radioactive super humans. No one has super strength. There are no super powers. Plain and simple.
-Radical survivalists Most people now a days don't believe that the Zombie aspect of the apocalypse is real. Which means that a good portion of people do not have underground bunkers with caches of weapons and years worth of food. Unless your Mormon. That's a different story. But we're assuming your not Mormon. So please, no radical survivalists.
-Technologists We're going to be blunt. There isn't much technology any more. Some CB Radios (which are used for forum wide communication) and some battery powered objects (Flashlights, radios (which don't receive much broadcasting) and some other things). You can not create a character who runs around launching nuclear missiles off of his iPad or anything of the like.
-Super colonists While this also applies to creating a colony, it also applies to the colony creator. You can create a colony with shanty shacks or even clear out a small town and refurbish it. You can not create a colony that has 4 story buildings built from god knows what (elephant feces maybe?). Keep this part realistic, because what fun would it be if it wasn't?
So you have some guidelines for creating your character. Please try your hardest to follow these. We all appreciate it very much and it will make our jobs so much easier.
